This is a fantastic and very strong Glasgow School Arts and Crafts period oak umbrella stand. It has powerful geometric cut outs and arches - it is such an excellent piece of modernism. We cannot attribute it to a particular designer, but is has the presence of an important object. It came from a public building in Edinburgh. There is definitely a Macintosh / John Ednie feel to this piece and more research is needed! It is in original condition. I've not waxed it, just left it as it came to me. There is a split to one of the top rails.
